The birth of Cakefulness

I won’t say that I have always loved baking or cooking because I think my mother would tell you differently.  I can think of her saying, many times through my teenage years, that I needed to become more domesticated.  I guess I finally did.

Thinking about it, it’s probably only been since I had children that I REALLY got into baking. I find baking good for my soul, on days when I’m feeling down or having a bad day, baking always seems to give me purpose and an outworking for my creativity.

Baking is about my kids. I love baking with them and have always baked with them from small.  It’s time together, doing something with our hands, it’s about licking the bowl and enjoying our creation. I hope that one day all 3 will look back and have fond memories of baking with me in the kitchen.

Baking is also about friendship and community and sharing in a piece of cake together. It’s about finding the most delicious, moist, cake, cookie, tart and making it beautiful.

So as a result of my love for baking, creating and the joy of sharing all yummy delights,  Cakefulness was born.

I’m not 100% sure what Cakefulness will grow into, but for now these are some of the things I would like to explore:

  • I would like to make cakes / baked goods for special people and special occasions;
  • Share my baking experiences;
  • Put together a visual recipe book for kids to encourage baking.

Grace very proud of her own cake creation

    I’m excited about this new adventure and I’m looking forward to seeing where it takes me.
